Hi there!

My name is Andrea Shim

Unlike many other creatives, my visual journey began much later in life after I had graduated from nursing school at the University of Toronto. I always knew I had a keen interest in the sciences, and even more so in healthcare where I can serve my community. Through my career as a registered nurse, I came to realize the benefits of visual communication within medicine, and how it can act as a universal language by simplifying the otherwise more complicated concepts.

In pursuit of my passion for combining the arts and sciences, I completed the Biomedical Visualization and Communication program at the University of British Columbia. I loved dissecting the complicated topics in health science and biotechnology, and finding ways to create engaging illustrations and animations for audiences to understand the content, yet ensuring scientific accuracy.

Since completing the program, I have collaborated with clients from both an educational and hospital institution to develop visualizations for their project and program needs. I especially enjoy working with different types of digital media, and combining 3D and 2D techniques.
