Respiratory System

BMVC Project Piece: As part of our Human Structure and Anatomy course, this project was created to display the breakdown of large organs into smaller, cellular components, and how the shapes and cell functions served a purpose towards organ function overall. The target audience in mind while developing this piece was towards a scientific community with an admiration for watercolor paintings.

01

Preliminary Sketches & Watercolor Techniques

The first step was to map out the rough outlines of the assets to be used. Different digital brushes were also trialed to evaluate the visual impact it may have on showing the realism of the anatomy, yet retaining a unique artistic style.

02

Digital Watercolor Painting

After deciding on the digital brushes and techniques to use, the assets were digitally painted with a consistent watercolor style.

Assembling the Assets

The completed assets were roughly organized together across a 2-page spread to determine adequate spacing between the images and text boxes.

04

Final Submission

After extensive research on the respiratory anatomy and physiology, the text, labels, and a cover page were included to complete the ensemble. The design choices were made to simulate a scientific magazine spread.
